The Transatlantic Leadership Network and the Atlantic Council Europe Center are proud to announce the upcoming “Southeast Europe Transatlantic Economic Forum.” The event is scheduled to take place at the US Capitol on Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21, 2024. This forum marks a significant initial step in strengthening regulatory frameworks and laying the groundwork for enhanced tourism and economic cooperation between the United States and Southeast Europe.
As a partner in this endeavor, the Institute for Politics and Economy of Southeast Europe will play a significant role in the subsequent projects discussed at the Forum. Mr. Zoran Korać, Founder and Director of IPESE, together with Mr. Dušan Žarković, Executive Director, will represent the Institute and partake in Forum activities.
Distinguished Panel Discussions
The Forum will feature several high-level panel discussions, each focused on key aspects of regional cooperation and development:
- Regional Cooperation: Overcoming Barriers and Improving Trade: Moderated by Ilva Tare, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, this panel will include insights from David S. De Falco, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and leaders of various Chambers of Commerce across the region, exploring avenues to enhance trade and economic integration.
- Energy Potentials of the Region: Amb. John Craig, Senior Fellow at the Transatlantic Leadership Network, will moderate a discussion on the region’s energy capabilities. Notable speakers include Zuhdi Enuzi, CEO of MEPSO A.D., and executives from prominent American and international energy firms, who will discuss innovations and sustainable energy solutions.
- Independent Judiciary and Fight Against Corruption: Best Practices: This critical panel, moderated by Tanja Dramac Jiries, Deputy Director for Europe at the National Endowment for Democracy, will feature justice sector experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, alongside Transparency International representatives, discussing strategies to combat corruption and strengthen judicial independence.
- Digitalization, Banking Regulations, and Financial Growth: This panel will delve into the impacts of digitalization on the banking sector and financial growth, moderated by Lisa Homel, Associate Director at the Atlantic Council Europe Center. It will include perspectives from banking leaders and legal experts in the region.
- US – Western Balkans: Enhancing Tourism Cooperation: Zeljka Radak Kukavičić will introduce a session focusing on bolstering tourism ties between the US and the Western Balkans, featuring discussions by regional tourism experts and U.S. commercial representatives.
